Site 2 - Culverts, Railroad Ties and the Semarca

Site 2 is a very popular bottom fishing and trolling location. It is near Cracker Ridge, a few miles west of the Party Grounds natural reef. The northwest corner of the site connects with site 13. This area had numerous scattered concrete reefs that were deployed in the early 1980s. Many of these smaller deployments are sanded over. In 1994, a 76 foot steel ship called the Semarca was reefed. By 2014, many additional concrete piles were added for a total of 9 marked piles. It is our goal to investigate the northwest area of this site to get the deployments from the early '80s added to the map.

Site 2 is approximately 12.5 nm from the Bell Buoy at a bearing of 067°. The site is approximately 12.5 nm offshore at a depth of about 75 ft.

Several barge loads of culverts were placed near the center of Site 2 in 1993 and 1997. In the early '80s, a few culverts were scattered to the north and northwest of the Center Culverts site; you might be able to find these old culverts using your depth gauge or sonar.

The East Culverts are a small pile of culverts a few hundred yards east of the Center Culverts.

On August 17, 2012, a barge load of clean concrete culverts and a metal tank were placed in the middle part of the site, to the north. The deposit was made from both sides of the barge. The height of the deposit is approximately 10 ft. and the length is 80 ft. The depth is approximately 75 ft.

2013 - Site 2 West Deposit (V02-13W3)

On May 24, 2103, a barge load of clean concrete culverts was placed in the west part of the site. The deposit was made from both sides of the barge. The height of the deposit is approx. 9 ft. The depth is approx 75 ft.

2013 - Site 2 SW Deposit (V02-13SW3)

On June 4, 2013, a barge load of clean concrete culverts was placed in the southwest part of the site. The deposit was made from both sides of the barge. The height of the deposit is approx. 6 ft. The depth is approx. 75 ft.

On July 1, 2013, a barge load of 1100 concrete railroad ties was placed in the north-northeast part of the site. The height of the pile is approx. 11 ft. The depth is approx. 75 ft.
