Site 1 - Culverts, Reef Balls and the Argoil Barge

Site 1 was permitted by the Corps of Engineers in 1979. It is 10.8 nm from the inlet. The first culverts were placed on the center of the site in 1990. The old culverts and the barge Argoil are popular fishing locations. These are excellent locations for divers to see invertebrates that not usually found in the Keys and south Florida. Depths range from 60-80 ft.

1990 - Site 1 Center Culverts (V01-90C3/V01-90C4)

The original deposit on this site was scattered concrete culverts placed in 1990. When the pile was originally placed there was some stacking and culverts that landed vertically to achieve a relief of 10-15 feet. Now after many years of being moved around by storms there is little or no stacked material with a maximum relief of 8 ft.

The 195 ft. steel barge Argoil is east of the center culverts. It is intact and upright.

2010 - Site 1 South Culverts (V01-10SE3)

In July 2010, 500 tons of clean concrete culverts were placed on the south part of site. The pile is approx 17 ft. high. The depth is 74 ft.

2011 - Site 1 NW Culverts (V01-11NW3)

In June 2011, a barge load of clean concrete culverts was placed in the northwest part of the site. The depth is approx 75 ft.

2011 - Site 1 NE Culverts (V01-11NE3)

On July 23, 2011, a barge load of clean concrete culverts was placed in the northeast part of the site. The deposit is approx 14 ft. high and 80 ft. long. The depth is approx 75 ft.

2012 - Site 1 SW Deposit (V01-12SW3)

On July 27, 2012, a barge load of clean concrete culverts and seawall material from Rose Bay was placed in the southwest part of the site. The deposit was made from both sides of the barge. The height of the deposit is approx 8 ft. and the length is 80 ft. The depth is approx 75 ft.

2013 - Site 1 W Deposit (V01-13W3)

On June 28, 2013, a barge load of approximately 147 clean concrete pipes and other materials was placed in the west part of the site. The height of the deposit is approx 13 ft. and the depth is approx 75 ft.

On June 24, 2013, a barge load of approximately 207 clean concrete pipes and structures was placed in the south part of the site. The height of the deposit is approx 8 ft. and the depth is approx 75 ft.

On August 6, 2013, a barge load of clean concrete structures was placed in the south part of the site. The height of the deposit is approx 12 ft. The depth is approx 70 ft.
